Rails to Trails Of The Withlacoochee
It is composed of a 46-mile stretch of railroad track that was converted to a paved recreational trail suitable for hiking, biking, and skating, Horseback riding is available on a separate trail along side the paved trail. (See Map) The North end of the trail is located in Citrus Springs south of Dunnellon, Florida and extends 46 miles to the south ending at the trailhead at Highway 301 in Dade City, Florida. The Withlacoochee Bicycle Riders are a group of cyclists who ride 3 or 4 times a week and are affiliated with Rails to Trails of the Withlacoochee. A ride schedule is available and anyone is welcome to join the group. The group uses the Withlacoochee Trail as an access point for these rides. They also ride six other trails within 1 1/2 hr drive of Inverness, Florida. Our organization assists the Department of Environmental Protection by helping to develop, Please join us on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, for our 19th Annual Bike Ride. Registration begins at this web site on June 17, 2013. Ride in October. (Register & pay online) All profits go back into the trail for improvements. Distances from 14 to 100 miles. The purchase of our club merchandise will help us to improve and maintain the trail, all items imprinted with the club logo. Rails to Trails Meetings are held the 3rd Thursday of Nov, Feb, April, & Sept. at the Lakes Region Library at 5:30 PM. All trail enthusiasts are invited to attend.
